Game-by-game predictions for the 2024 Alabama football season

As the 2024 season begins, one question seems to dominate the college football world: Is Alabama still Alabama?

Last season, the Alabama Crimson Tide not only had to watch the retirement of the best head coach of all time, Nick Saban, but also saw a mass exodus of players from their roster via the transfer portal and lost several key players to the NFL Draft.

However, the new head coach is Kalen DeBoer, who is coming off a season in Washington that saw the Huskies reach the national championship game. With the arrival of DeBoer, the Crimson Tide have also added a talented transfer class and coaching staff, and supplemented that group with some key returnees at prominent positions.

As a result, Alabama is expected to once again be one of the best college football teams and a serious national championship contender in 2024. But will those expectations become a reality for DeBoer in his first year?

To answer that question, let’s take a look at Alabama’s 2024 schedule and make some game predictions for each regular season game.

Mountaineer from Western Kentucky – August 31st

Gary Cosby Jr. – Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Forecast: Alabama 49, Western Kentucky 13

Alabama will usher in the Kalen DeBoer era in a big way with a 49-13 win over Western Kentucky. The Crimson Tide have never lost to the Hilltoppers, and that won’t change in 2024.

USF Bulls – 9/7

Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 38, USF 10

The Bulls gave Alabama a real scare in Tampa last season, a game the Crimson Tide eventually won by a final score of 17-3. Alabama should have no trouble handling it on home turf this time around.

Pittsburgh Pirates – 14.9.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 28, Wisconsin 17

Alabama’s first road trip of the DeBoer era will take place on September 14th when the Crimson Tide travel to the Wisconsin Badgers. This trip to Madison could be a challenge for Alabama, but one the Crimson Tide should be able to overcome.

Georgia Bulldogs – 9/28

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 27, Georgia 24

The game could go either way, with home field advantage playing a role for Alabama against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide dominated this matchup during the Saban era, and I’d say Alabama will narrowly win the first meeting under DeBoer.

Vanderbilt Commodores – 10/5

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 48, Vanderbilt 13

Alabama hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt since 1984, and that’s likely to be the case this year. Expect the Crimson Tide to pull off a clean sweep of the Commodores in Nashville.

South Carolina Gamecocks – 10/12

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 35, South Carolina 17

This will be only the third meeting between Alabama and South Carolina since 2010 and the first in Tuscaloosa since 2009. Expect the Crimson Tide to win this game as well, as Alabama will eventually pull away in the second half.

Tennessee Volunteers – 19.10.

Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 33, Tennessee 30

An outcome that could honestly go either way: Alabama leaves Knoxville with a narrow win over the rival Tennessee Volunteers. However, this game has the potential to be an offensive showcase, similar to their 2022 meeting in Knoxville, a game Tennessee won by a final score of 52-49.

Kansas City Royals – 10/26

Jordan Prather – USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 28, Missouri 20

An underrated matchup on Alabama’s 2024 schedule comes on Oct. 26 in Tuscaloosa when the Crimson Tide host Missouri. The Tigers haven’t beaten Alabama since joining the SEC in 2012, and that likely won’t change this season, although Missouri did play the Crimson Tide in a close game.

LSU Tigers – 11/9

Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 27, LSU 28

A road game in Death Valley, this will be Alabama’s first loss of the 2024 season. The LSU Tigers defeated Alabama 32-31 in Baton Rouge in 2022, and it would be no surprise if this game is just as close in DeBoer’s first visit to Tiger Stadium.

Mercer Bears – 16.11.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 54, Mercer 7

The Crimson Tide have never lost to Mercer in football and that will not change in 2024. A big win for Alabama is expected here.

Oklahoma Sooners – 23.11.

Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 30, Oklahoma 21

Alabama will travel to Norman for the first time since 2002. It’s the Oklahoma Sooners’ first year as a member of the SEC. It will be a hostile road game, but the Crimson Tide should still walk away victorious.

Auburn Tigers – 30.11.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Forecast: Alabama 35, Auburn 17

The in-state rival Auburn Tigers haven’t beaten Alabama in Tuscaloosa since 2010, and that’s not likely to change this season. Auburn will have improved from last year, when they gave Alabama a scare at home, but it won’t be enough to beat the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.
