TPD makes arrest in connection with New Year’s Day murder – Tallahassee reports

On Thursday, June 27, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) arrested one person following the fatal shooting that occurred on January 1, 2024 in the 600 block of Osceola Street.

TPD reported that investigation results revealed that a man was setting off fireworks near the intersection of Main and Osceola Streets when 34-year-old Marquez Williams approached him and became involved in a verbal argument. Williams walked to a nearby intersection nearly 200 feet away and fired a gun at the man. Unfortunately, the victim was struck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Detectives from TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit carefully examined both physical and electronic evidence and conducted extensive witness interviews, ultimately identifying Williams as a suspect.

After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, TPD investigators obtained arrest warrants to charge Williams with second-degree murder. Williams was located by TPD officers and members of the United States Marshals Service and arrested after a short foot pursuit.

TPD stated that “this arrest underscores TPD’s commitment to tirelessly investigate violent crimes in the community and arrest those who seek to harm others.”
