INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WFXR) — Reigning NHRA Funny Car World Champion Matt Hagan has been nominated for the 2024 ESPYS Best Driver Award for his outstanding performance during an outstanding 2023 NHRA Championship season.

Hagan won his fourth career title and the first NHRA World Championship for Tony Stewart Racing with his 11,000 hp TSR Direct Connection Dodge//SRT Hellcat.

This is the first time Hagan has been nominated for the prestigious Best Driver award, as he moved up to the elite Funny Car category with his fourth world championship title in 2023.

“I’m overwhelmed to be nominated for the ESPYS,” Hagan said. “It just shows what you can accomplish when you’re surrounded by a great group of motivated and hard-working guys. It takes a small army to do what we do, and it really takes everyone. It’s a huge opportunity, but it’s not just about me, it’s about the whole team.”

“It’s a humbling sport and it’s a humbling car. And this group just works hard. We’re grateful to all the fans that support us and hopefully they go out and vote for us, but at the end of the day I’m just very honored to be nominated.”
