President Joe Biden will hold a press conference on Thursday, the key event of a monumental week in which the Democratic incumbent fends off calls that he should step down as the party’s presumptive nominee after a shaky debate performance.

It is exactly the kind of event that many political observers say Biden must successfully conduct in order to refute calls – including from within his own ranks – for him to withdraw from the re-election battle against the likely Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

Biden argued that he had a particularly bad night in Atlanta and that it was not representative of his mental state. A strong performance on Thursday could convince members of his party that he still has the ability to both win in November and serve a second term. A weak performance — or similar stumbles to those in his debate appearances — could make calls for him to withdraw even louder.

Here are the details of what White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called Biden’s “Big Boy” press conference:

When is the press conference?

Biden is scheduled to answer questions from the White House press corps at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Where is Biden speaking?

Biden will speak at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, close to the White House, where many events of the ongoing NATO summit are taking place.

On which channel will it be broadcast?

NBC News will cover the President’s press conference, and you can watch it on NBC 4 New York or your local NBC station.

You can also watch it in the player at the top of this page at start time.

At a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Friday, President Joe Biden responded to speculation that he might drop out of the presidential campaign.

Who will watch?

Probably a lot of people.

CNN reported that 51 million people watched the debate in Atlanta in prime time, while more than 8 million people watched Biden’s ABC interview live. If the networks add it to their daily coverage or cable channels broadcast it live, Biden is guaranteed to have a significant number of viewers.

Will Biden know the questions in advance?

Except for some obvious exceptions – such as incidents in which two black radio hosts said Biden’s campaign sent them pre-planned questions – it is not common practice for the president to know exactly what will be discussed in interviews or press conferences.

His staff prepares him for a variety of opportunities that arise from the day’s headlines – that is, they prepare him for the possibility that journalists will want to ask him about his suitability for the job, the NATO summit or other topics.

How many questions will he answer?

This is not set in stone and there are not many precedents.

Biden hasn’t held very many press conferences that weren’t tied to a foreign leader’s visit or overseas travel. Typically, they’re what’s known in the industry as “2+2,” meaning two U.S. reporters and two foreign reporters asking questions.

What’s next?

Biden returns to the campaign trail on Friday with a trip to Michigan. He will also give an interview with NBC on Monday.
