The Florida football program secured its first signing of July on Wednesday by poaching four-star linebacker Myles Johnson from Brewton, Alabama, and TR Miller from fellow Southeastern Conference rival the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The 6’1″, 220-pound defenseman had been committed to Bama for some time, but his commitment was reinstated last week, opening the door for the Gators to take a shot at him. Billy Napier and Co. had been working on him since before the contract was reinstated, bringing months of behind-the-scenes effort to fruition.

What attracts Johnson to UF

“Coach Roberts and Coach Armstrong said they do a lot of similar things with their linebackers as Alabama does,” Johnson notes. “They see a lot of similarities in where Alabama would use me and where they want to use me.”

He was also impressed by what the orange and blue colors had to offer him in the classroom.

“I would say the most important thing was the educational aspect. We went to the educational facility and it was beautiful. I know they mentioned that they are the best public school in the country. That was really a big part of what I wanted to take away from college football.”

Recruitment Summary

Johnson has three stars and is ranked 491st overall and 50th nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. He also has three stars in On3’s industry rankings, ranking 493rd and 50th, respectively.

The rising senior is rated four stars by 247Sports’ proprietary ranking system and ESPN.
