In the USA, at least ten children have died in overheated cars this year.

A 5-year-old boy died after being left in a hot car for about seven hours in Omaha, Nebraska, authorities said.

According to Omaha police, the boy was found unconscious shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday outside a beauty salon where his foster mother works.

The five-year-old was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

His foster mother, 40-year-old Juanita Pinon of Omaha, was arrested and charged with child abuse by neglect resulting in death, police said Thursday.

“The suspect has not commented on whether it was an accident or intentional,” police spokesman Chris Gordon told ABC News.

On Wednesday the temperature in Omaha rose to 89 degrees.

According to the national nonprofit organization KidsAndCars.org, at least ten children have died in overheated cars in the United States so far this year.

As KidsAndCars.org found, at least 1,094 children have died in overheated cars since 1990.
