Ivey administration continues road and bridge projects, Governor Ivey announces .9 million for cities and counties

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey today announced that $3.9 million in state funding will be awarded to cities and counties for various statewide road and bridge projects, underscoring her continued commitment to improving Alabama’s infrastructure from day one.

Recognizing the state’s critical infrastructure needs, Governor Ivey championed the Rebuild Alabama Act, which created the annual grant program responsible for this allocation. Passed overwhelmingly by the House and signed by Governor Ivey in 2019, the Rebuild Alabama Act requires the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to establish an annual program that allocates at least $10 million of the state’s additional gasoline tax revenue to local projects.

“Rebuild Alabama has made record progress in every single county in this state, and I am proud that we are still delivering road and bridge projects today,” said Governor Ivey. “The $3.9 million we are awarding will support local projects from the top to the bottom of the state. As I have said many times, we are just getting started; the Ivey administration will remain true to its commitment to improving Alabama’s infrastructure.”

Cities and counties also contributed a total of over $7 million in local grants for the approved projects. All projects must be advanced within one year of the funding being awarded.

In this round of funding alone, over $12 million in state transportation funding was awarded this year through the Rebuild Alabama Act’s annual grant program, and another round of funding is pending. Since the passage of the Rebuild Alabama Act, state transportation funding has been used to support local projects in all 67 counties.
