In 2020, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia made his directorial debut (after several decades of making short films) with the thriller The Platformwhich was released on the Netflix streaming service. You can read my very positive review of this film at THIS LINK, but the gist of the matter is that I was very impressed and was excited to see what Gaztelu-Urrutia would do next. He put together a film entitled Rich flu before the strikes last year, but it turns out that the next film we will see from him is a sequel to his debut, The Platform 2. This film will also be released into the world courtesy of Netflix – and the streamer has just announced that it will be streaming the film on 4th of Octoberand thus ushers in the Halloween season. Along with the release date, a trailer for The Platform 2and you can check it in the document embedded above.

The film was directed by Gaztelu-Urrutia from a screenplay by David Desola and Pedro Rivero. The Platform told the following story: A vertical prison with one cell per floor. Two people per cell. Only one feeding platform and two minutes per day for feeding. An endless nightmare, trapped in the hole. Variety reminds us: “The tower is actually called the Vertical Self-Management Center and works in such a way that a handful of prisoners are assigned to each floor. When it comes to food, a platform full of food slowly descends and stops on each floor for a set amount of time. But this inevitably means that those at the top get to choose first – while those at the bottom are lucky to get anything to eat at all.

Gaztelu-Urrutia, Desola and Rivero are authors of The Platform 2 with Egoitz Moreno. Here is the synopsis: Do you think you can bring justice in the hell of the platform? And if you try, who will? As a mysterious leader asserts his rule on the platform, a new resident is drawn into the fight against this controversial method to combat the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?

In the sequel, Milena Smit (The girl in the mirror), Hovik Keuchkerian (red queen), Natalia Tena (game of Thrones) and Oscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).

Gaztelu-Urrutia produces The Platform 2 with Carlos Juarez and Raquel Perea.
