FREEHOLD – The former Wall High School teacher who quit her job last week because she was facing arrest on sex crimes charges had an intimate relationship with one of her students from April to mid-June and exchanged “numerous” sexual photos and messages with him during that time, police documents show.

As authorities closed in on Julie Rizzitello, 36, of Brick, she contacted the victim on July 2 and demanded that he delete the messages from his phone. The indictment accuses her of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and witness tampering.

Rizzitello was arrested the following day on these charges.

Criminal complaints state that the victim, now a former student at Wall High School, was between 18 and 22 years old at the time of the crimes. Despite the fact that he was already an adult, the alleged sexual relationship is a crime because Rizzitello, as the victim’s teacher, had supervisory or disciplinary authority over him, the complaints state.

According to the complaints, the inappropriate relationship began in April when Rizzitello sexually harassed the victim.

By May 18, the behavior escalated to sexual relations, which occurred in the victim’s car in Brick that day, according to the complaints and an affidavit charging Rizzitello with the crimes. After the first time they had sex, Rizzitello sent the victim nude photos of herself, the victim told police, according to the affidavit.

He told authorities that he continued to have sex with his teacher multiple times at locations in Wall, Belmar and Brick through June 14, the affidavit states.

After the victim allowed police to search his cellphone, they found “numerous communications and photographs between Rizzitello and (the victim) that were of a sexual nature,” the affidavit states.

The complaints state that Rizzitello contacted the victim on July 2 and told him to delete the messages from his phone.

A day earlier, someone in the Wall school system, whose name was redacted from the affidavit provided to the Asbury Park Press, contacted the Wall Township Criminal Investigation Bureau and reported a possible inappropriate sexual relationship between a former student and Rizzitello, the affidavit states.

When detectives questioned the victim, he described the relationship in detail and told them it began in April, the affidavit states.

The victim said he told several friends about his relationship with the teacher, the document says.

Detectives also took statements from several witnesses who detailed their knowledge of Rizzitello’s relationship with the victim, the affidavit states.

Rizzitello has been held without bail in the Monmouth County Jail since her arrest on July 3.

She is due to appear at a hearing on Monday to determine whether she should remain in custody while she awaits trial in the case.
