IDER, Alabama (WAFF) – A Michigan man was arrested Tuesday after defrauding a local business in Ider last month.

According to officials, the company informed Ider police about a scam in which nearly $500 was stolen using gift cards.

On Tuesday, officials said another attempted fraud involving more than $1,000 occurred, leading to the arrest of Dayvion Davis of Flint, Michigan.

According to investigators, Davis was wearing clothing and items from the previous theft when he was arrested, which constituted reasonable suspicion for arrest.

According to Indiana Police Chief Stephen Malone, such crimes have been reported in Calhoun, Etowah, Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb counties.

He says rural towns like Ider are an easy target for travelers from other states.

An investigation is being conducted to determine how many stores were defrauded.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Henagar Police Department assisted in breaking up this theft ring.

Davis is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail.
