TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pinellas County business owner is asking for answers tonight after his car wash was vandalized.

The crime was caught on video on Treasure Island when a man pulled down a parrot valued at $2,400.

“This is Pete the parrot,” said Erik Norrie, owner of Treasure Island Car Wash.

He has spent the last three years of his life not only repairing it, but breathing life into it with elaborate artwork and fun characters.

“It is an ongoing process to create a rough diamond,” he said.

To this end, Norrie has invested thousands of dollars in various statues.

Pete the parrot alone cost $2,400 and now he’s broken.

“At 3 a.m. some gangsters came by here and decided to have a fight with a parrot,” Norrie explained.

Norrie recorded the crime on one of his surveillance cameras.

The video shows a man riding a scooter to the car wash, getting off, pulling the parrot down, stumbling to the ground and then driving away.

“There was a big piece of rebar in there, and when he pulled on it, he bent the rebar,” Norrie said. “I was able to bend it back, shape it a little and repair it.”

But it still needs re-glazing and repainting, and Norrie wonders who did it and why.

“I don’t want him to get into serious trouble, but I’d like to talk to him,” he said. “Maybe I’d like to let him work here for a bit.”

Norrie is now offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who finds the person who vandalized his car wash.

He filed a report with the police on Wednesday.

Treasure Island Police confirmed the report and said their next step is to launch an investigation.
