Microsoft Gaming is increasing the price of its Xbox Game Pass subscription service in several stages worldwide, while limiting day-one release to only the most expensive version of the offering.

Starting Wednesday, the price of Xbox Game Pass “Ultimate” in the US will increase by $3 per month, from $16.99 to $19.99 for new customers. The “Core” tier will increase from $59.99 for the 12-month pass to $69.99 for the annual fee.

Starting September 12, the price for existing members will change on their next recurring billing.

According to Xbox, a new Game Pass plan called “Standard” will soon be introduced, which will offer more features than Core but fewer than the Ultimate tier.

For PC, new users will now pay $11.99 per month for Game Pass access, an increase from the previous price of $9.99.

While Game Pass for Console will no longer be available to new members, existing subscribers who have auto-payment enabled will continue to have access.

In addition to these price changes, Xbox has also decided to only include day-one releases of its upcoming games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, in the Ultimate package. Other features limited to this package include EA Play membership, cloud gaming across multiple devices, and free monthly “perks” from Microsoft.

Both the Ultimate and Standard versions will offer “hundreds” of games, while Core pro Xbox will only have 25+ titles.

Microsoft Gaming’s decision to raise the price of Game Pass and limit the feature set of the cheaper plans follows the Xbox Games Showcase in June, which unveiled several upcoming games and made a major effort to make those new games available to Game Pass subscribers on release day, the Xbox Live outage last week, and the launch of the Xbox app on some Amazon Fire TV devices this week.
