Police arrest Woonsocket man accused of killing another with car

WOONSOCKET – A Woonsocket man charged with murder for intentionally hitting another man with a car has been arrested, Woonsocket police said.

Andrew Martin, 37, was arrested Tuesday evening in Pawtucket, police said.

Police say an “ongoing domestic dispute” prompted Martin to strike 31-year-old Michael Lefebvre of Woonsocket on July 1. Lefebvre died Saturday at Rhode Island Hospital.

How the police found Martin

After speaking with witnesses to the incident on East School Street, police issued a warrant for Martin’s arrest. They were able to capture him last night after detectives “gathered information on Martin’s whereabouts in Pawtucket and established surveillance,” Police Chief Thomas Oates said in a news release.

According to Oates, Pawtucket police later stopped a car with Martin in it as the car approached Interstate 95.

Martin is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence District Court on charges including murder, assault with intent to commit certain crimes, aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing death and driving without a license, police said.
